What Can You Do On Casual Friday?
#CasualFriday can be so much more than dressing in more comfortable clothes and less serious shoes.
Friday is an exciting day anyway, but by going casual, you can make it even more enjoyable. It’s a really good way to wind down, share what’s been happening in the office during the week, and treat yourself for all your hard work.
Here are some ideas to make your Fridays the highpoint of the week. Spot anything you might try?
Beer o’Clock
Finished your work for the day? Then head for the meeting room for beer o’clock: free drinks, juice and snacks. I have it on good authority that at Cosmo in the 70s and 80s, trays of wine would appear at 5pm every Friday. (That’s the most important bit – the company pays.)
Table Sports
Set up a portable foosball or pool table and let people play loser stays on – this is much fairer and more fun than winner stays on. If you’re feeling adventurous and you have a big table, you can also set up a ping pong net. (This should not be tied into beer o’clock; drunken wiff-waff is a dangerous thing.)
Have an Office Jam
Are there any musicians at the company? Encourage them to bring their instruments and get a little jam session going. It could even become a regular thing and a cool way for people at the company to mingle. You can always take the music to the pub after the office shuts.
Loosen the Collar
I once worked with a chap who made his own version of a Vivienne Westwood outfit by slashing holes in a t-shirt. Yes, casual Friday is a chance for your outfit to reveal a little more of your personality, but revealing too much skin can go a bit too far.
Group Lunch
You may not be able to do this every week, but if you’re a manager, Friday is also a chance for you to spend a bit of time with your staff outside of the office. Why not treat them to a late lunch?
Play Boardgames
There are lots of great boardgames available these days, even more interesting than Monopoly, Scrabble or Risk. You can even get cooperative games so people have to work together. An entertaining way to spend a Friday lunchtime.
