Stationery – Tips & Tricks to extend life

Be your office’s Dr. Frankenstein with these tips to give your stationery a new lease of life.  (Igor not included)

  • Have an office swap shop

Set up a spot in the office where people can leave unwanted stationery for other departments to use.   Your empty file folder might be just right for someone else’s documents.

  • Sharpen your scissors with tinfoil

  • Make spiral notepads last longer

Have you ever noticed that most people write on the page facing them in a spiral notepad?  That means 50% of the thing is unused when they get to the end – why not just turn it back-to-front and start all over again?

  • And turn your printouts into notepads

Unless you’re one of the few people that use double-sided documents, everything you print has one side blank.  So collect all those pages and turn them into a makeshift notepad – just hold it together with a bulldog clip.

  • How to extend the life of your printer toner

There are a few tips here, but the first one is to dust the outside of the printer each week and to clean the inside using a can of compressed air.

  • Stop your pens from drying out

Humans are 80% water – pens and highlighters can’t be far behind. Would you like it if someone unscrewed the top of your head and didn’t put it back? No.  So always put the cap back on your pens to keep them happy.

  • Oil your shredder

Did you know you can oil paper shredder blades?  It will help the machine keep going for longer.   Use the manufacturer’s recommended brand of oil and don’t leave it in the kitchen in case it ends up on a salad.

  • De-clutter your computer

Just like office desks, computers can fill up with junk.  Run file-cleaning software, defragment your drive and scan for viruses to keep your PC running smoothly.
