Floods: 100% rate relief and HMRC helpline

Hopefully the government will leave businesses high and dry

David Cameron has said businesses affected by floods will get 100% tax relief on business rates and will be able to defer tax payments.  HMRC has also set up a helpline for people affected by the floods.

HMRC say they will agree instalment arrangements where taxpayers are unable to pay because of flooding; work with businesses that have lost vital records; suspend debt collection and cancel penalties for missing statutory deadlines.
The helpline is 0800 904 7900.
It’s open Monday to Friday, 8.00 am to 8.00 pm; Saturday and Sunday, 8.00 am to 4.00 pm, excluding bank holidays.

I think there are all sorts of things being done in energy research, but they require forethought, investment and political will. You might get one out of three. 🙂

Whilst this isn’t a new problem, just an old problem getting worse each year… It still seems a bit weird how for so long now, we have floods in the winter and droughts in the summer. Is it at all possible to harness the water in winter and use it in summer ?
